Jobing Description
Under limited supervision by the Assistant Community Manager, develops, supervises and evaluates the work activities in the Senior Services Department. The Director manages the Senior Services program whose goal it is to ensure the Seniors in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community can remain in their homes and in the Community for longer than would otherwise be possible. Provides overall leadership and supervision of the Department’s programs including Case Management, Homecare Assistance, Meal Program, Transportation, Assistive Device Provision and Recreation. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.


Mentoring, Supervision & Leadership: Mentors Senior Services staff so they attain the technical and customer service skills along with experience necessary to perform independently and attain further career progression goals. Provides routine supervision of assigned staff members. Provides leadership to department staff including the future direction of the department, how that guidance will impact the Senior Services goals and objectives and how current and future programs can be best utilized for the benefit of the Community.

Senior Programs: Plans, implements, directs and monitors all Senior Services Department related services and programs, providing for the efficient and effective functioning of all systems and personnel. Coordinates and confers with other SRPMIC Departments, public and Tribal Government officials and representatives of various agencies and institutions regarding Senior related issues and the welfare of Seniors in the Community.

Operations: Assumes a leadership role in establishing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all programs within the Senior Services Department. Implements and oversees an annual review and monitoring schedule for the SOP’s to ensure currency. Implements, monitors and improves the Wrap Model within Senior Services while acting as an advisor to other HHS programs. Maintains Quality Assurance for the Management Accountability Information SystEm (MAISE) process and documentation.

Budget, Planning & Administration: Initiates, develops and improves the Senior Services Department strategic planning process including creation and maintenance of a Department Mission Statement and Vision Statement. Acts as the primary contact for funding sources regarding programmatic, budget and compliance issues. Prepares and manages the Senior Services program budget and fiscal resources to provide for program operation. Prepares budget requests, monitors expenditures and maintains operating budgets of department programs.

Miscellaneous: Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Assistant Community Manager or Community Manager.

Skills / Requirements
A Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or a closely related field. Demonstrated successful work experience equivalent to 7 years full time professional level work in a social services program, primarily working in the field of gerontology including a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience of professional and para-professional staff and managing large and multiple budgets.
• Special Requirements: Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of this position, successful completion of an extensive background investigation is required. May be required to work after normal work hours including evenings and weekend. May be required to travel. Must have ability to drive a 15-passenger van for client transportation.
Must possess a valid Arizona operator’s license and be insurable under the tribal insurer requirements which are outlined as follows. Must be at least 21 years of age for all driving positions which require transporting others as a routine job duty. Driving disqualifications will occur if during the last three (3) years, the driver has any of the following convictions: for a felony; sale, handling or use of drugs; alcohol or drug related offense that is automobile related; three (3) or more speeding violations; more than two (2) speeding tickets in excess of 15 mph; one or more other serious violations. “Serious violations” are defined as: driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs; violation for alcohol offence during use of a vehicle; failure to stop/report an accident; driving while impaired; making a false accident report; homicide, manslaughter or assault arising out of the use of a vehicle; driving while license is suspended or revoked; racing; attempting to elude a police officer. Other disqualifications would include having a driver’s license suspended or revoked and involvement in two (2) or more chargeable incidents.
